Thank you so very much for the great post! I think today I will be dumping skype off my system. The qTox client picked up my camera right away with no problems. Now that is a innovative feature that can come in really handy. It appears that you can export your user profile. This is extremely interesting and love the many different versions of the client program. I will be testing this today with some friends and plan on just dumping skype. I am looking it over and so far I like what I see. I have installed it, Which was rather easy and have it running. FYI: xmpp (jabber) accounts provide more functions over Google's Mail (Google Hangouts / talk) accounts in 3rd party messaging applications. With multi-account (multi-protocol) messaging applications like "Jitsi" and "Pidgin" you must have already have a free messaging account to use, like "xmpp (jabber)" account (a good one is " "), or Google's Mail (Google Hangouts / talk), etc.

There are other secure messaging applications as well, "Ring", Linphone", "Jitsi" (built-in OTR) or "Pidgin" with the OTR plug-in, but "qTox" is my favorite because it is so simple to install and use, and it is fast. see the download options for other operating systems in the link below, scroll down. that runs on Linux, MS Windows, Mac, iOS, your phones, etc. This is an excellent messaging program instead of the insecure "Skype" or "Facebook" options for you and or family, friends, business associates, etc.

When it first comes up, enter in your desired user name, and a secure password (twice), when the main qTox screen comes up, you can click the image in the upper left to use your own avatar image. Then, just double click that file you downloaded to install it, if it does not automatically start to install it. To install "qTox" (QTox), click the web link below, go to the bottom of the page, click "Grab binary packages directly", and click the easy to install Linux ".deb" file for your computer (32-bit or 64-bit), and for your installation of Linux Mint, like xUbuntu 16.04 (Linux Mint 18), or xUbuntu 14.04 (Linux Mint 17.x).

I have tried totally uninstalling/reinstalling and removing my personal skype folder (user/.Skype) and no change.īasically, The cams work fine in every application except skype. So, I grabbed an older logitech and tried it.

Only thing I can think of is that some update might have screwed over the mic or sound somehow. So, I tested the cam with Audacity and it works fine. The problem is when using the mic all I get is a bit of crackling, no sound or just a chirp now and again. I have never had an issue in the past with my logitech cam until now. It seems skype no longer wants to work with my mic in my logitech cam. Otherwise I would just switch to Ring and be done with it. But I do have a friend in England that uses it exclusively and I want to stay in contact with him. Personally, I am about ready to give up on skype all together.
